Penn State's First Adobe Certified Expert
James Lukens-Gable has become an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in InDesign CC. InDesign is the industry-standard publishing application for print publications, interactive PDF documents, digital magazines, and e-books. He is the first Penn State employee to become a certified expert in any program in the Adobe suite of software. Presently there are only 28 Adobe Certified Experts in Pennsylvania, of which only seven are certified in InDesign. The 70 minute proctored exam involved answering 50 questions covering 6 topic areas: Laying out a document, working with text, managing graphics, understanding color and transparency, building interactive documents, and preparing documents for final output. Lukens-Gable is the the art director and graphic designer for Penn State's Multimedia and Print Center, having served in this capacity for the past 22 years. He graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and was first employed as art director for a central Pennsylvania retail establishment, then as lead designer at a design agency. In 2001, Lukens-Gable received the Outstanding Service Award from Penn State's Auxiliary and Business Services. For the past 15 years he has hosted a listserv and LinkedIn group to connect and share relevant information with over 100 Penn State design, marketing, and communication professionals.
