Course Packet and Copyright Clearance
The Copyright Clearance Office can easily handle all your course packet needs. The Copyright Clearance Office serves the University community and operates within the Multimedia & Print Center, allowing one-stop service for all of your needs. Our mission is to produce the highest-quality instructional materials for you at the best possible price and to ensure materials are available at The Penn State Bookstore or your department on time.
Our staff will request copyright permissions via:
- The Copyright Clearance Center, Inc.,
- Our site license with Harvard
You may submit articles in advance of your entire packet to help expedite the permissions process. We'll keep you updated on the status of permission requests, as well as production timelines.
We are your official University resource for obtaining copyright approvals for course packets and other publications. In fact, Policy AD-46 states that utilizing our services for copyright approvals ensures staff members and their departments will not be liable for financial responsibility in the event of copyright infringement.
Your documents can be scanned into our digital management system for optimal quality. Your documents will be retained in our "e-catalog" for convenient reordering, future reference, updating, and production.
All packets are produced at our full-service Hostetter Building digital center. You will have the opportunity to review a proof copy before your packets are produced. Packets include:
- Black-and-white and color copies
- Penn State cover with specific course information
- Custom covers are available at additional costs
- Complimentary three-hole drilling and shrink-wrapping
- Custom binding and other production options are available for an additional fee
Your course packets will be sent directly to the Penn State Bookstore on campus. We'll also deliver directly to your office a minimum of two free instructor copies.
Sometimes actual enrollment exceeds estimated levels. We can expeditiously produce additional course packets; packet add-ons called in by 4 p.m. will be ready for the bookstore by the morning of the next business day.
Call us if you plan to use the same packet for a subsequent semester or session. We'll pull all of the information to request copyright permissions as necessary and get started promptly on your packet.
The Penn State Bookstore is not charged for any course packets canceled before production.
